UAE-Nigeria Visa Dispute Resolved, Travel Restrictions Vacated

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has lifted its visa restrictions on Nigerian passport holders, effective immediately. This development was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu on Monday.

According to Idris, the Federal Government and the UAE authorities have reached an agreement to vacate the travel restrictions imposed on Nigerians. As a result, Nigerian passport holders can now travel to the UAE without any hindrance.

The minister directed Nigerians seeking information on the updated UAE visa conditions to visit the website; documentverificationhub.ae for further details

Idris stated, “An agreement has been reached, and effective from today, Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE can do so. We’ve been discussing the visa issue with the UAE, and today, we’ve reached an agreement. Details will be provided later today.”

The UAE had imposed a visa ban on Nigeria two years ago due to diplomatic disputes, including the Central Bank of Nigeria’s inability to remit an estimated $85 million in revenue to the UAE, leading to Dubai’s Emirates Airline halting flights to Nigeria. However, after several meetings between the Nigerian government and the UAE authorities, the Federal Government assured Nigerians that the visa ban would soon be lifted. In June, the Nigerian government announced that it had paid 98 percent of the $850 million owed.
