Rusticated SUG President Triumphs In Court

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has declared as null and void the rustication of Ojo Aderemi, a student activist at the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State, by the university authorities.

Oyo Echo gathered that Aderemi, the last known president of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) was rusticated on April 10, 2019.

He however secured an order for his reinstatement in the court presided by Justice Uche Agomoh.

Speaking after the judgement via a statement on Wednesday, Aderemi said: “I feel vindicated, irrespective of the length of time. I believe there is no time too long to pursue justice.”

“If I get a chance to live the past again, I will avoid this or that mistake but I will never abandon my principles. I fought and I won, for myself, for people with genuine convictions, and for all time.”

On what he was doing for the period of his rustication, Aderemi said he spent the time doing some important and productive things.

Aderemi, a 300L student of the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, was rusticated for four semesters by the Student Disciplinary Committed (SDC) of the institution.

He was accused of conducting an illegal congress of the union, leading a protest and breaking the glass of an office while a lecturer was inside, all of which were denied by Aderemi.
