Oyo Intensifies Efforts to Combat Flooding, Erosion

Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling flooding and erosion, ensuring the safety of citizens and their properties.

Environment and Natural Resources Commissioner, Architect Abdulmojeed Olawale Mogbonjubola, made this known during an advocacy and sensitization program for 11 Local Government Councils in Ibadan.

The program, organized by the Nigeria Erosion and Watersheds Management Project (OYONEWMAP), aimed to raise awareness about flood and erosion hazards and promote collective action towards a sustainable environment.

Mogbonjubola highlighted the state government’s efforts in desilting streams, rivers, and waterways to mitigate flood and erosion impacts. He attributed the zero record of flood incidents in recent years to the government’s preparedness and prompt response to environmental issues.

The commissioner appealed to residents to maintain environmentally friendly practices, emphasizing that making Oyo State free from environmental hazards is a collective task.

The event was attended by local government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders, who were urged to complement the state government’s efforts in preventing flood and erosion hazards.
