OYO APC WARNS COUNCIL BOSSES AGAINST OPPOSING LG AUTONOMY

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has cautioned executive chairmen and career officers in the 33 local government councils against supporting Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts to undermine the Supreme Court’s verdict granting financial autonomy to local governments.

In a statement, APC Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare accused Makinde of covetousness, disrespect for constitutional democracy, and an inordinate ambition to make Oyo State a separate republic. He warned that opposing the Supreme Court’s verdict could lead to jail time for council bosses.

Sadare alleged that Makinde’s actions confirmed accusations of embezzlement of council funds and that his plan to loot LGA funds had been truncated by the Supreme Court’s verdict. He emphasized that Oyo State is part of Nigeria and cannot claim sovereignty.

The APC also dismissed the withdrawal of council chairmen from the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) as a smokescreen, stating that efforts are underway to hold Makinde and others accountable for mismanaging trillions of naira meant for local governments.
