Odidiomo reports IPTP’s 12th Plenary Session
The 12th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP) took place on March 3-4, 2024, bringing together dignitaries and parliamentarians from over 100 national and regional parliaments worldwide.
The IPTP reiterated its support for the Universal Peace Charter, adopted at the 11th session in Cambodia, which advocates for global peace and security through tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
The Parliament expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in Sudan, condemning the use of prohibited weapons and calling for an immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and a transitional government.
The IPTP stressed the importance of strengthening global partnerships to foster security, stability, and equitable development among nations.
The event was opened by keynote speeches from prominent figures, including H.E. Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, Speaker of the Parliament of Tajikistan; H.E. Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union; and H.E. Ahmed Aljarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace.
Members engaged in discussions on strategies for promoting tolerance and peace, highlighting the need for dialogue, negotiation, and international cooperation to resolve global crises and conflicts.
