The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology (ICT) and Cybersecurity, Hon. Adedeji Olajide, has emphasized the need for robust ICT infrastructure, digital literacy programmes and enhanced cybersecurity to drive Nigeria’s economic transformation and global competitiveness.
Hon. Olajide made this call during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Institute of ICT Engineers to his National Assembly office in Abuja. The discussions focused on the National Digital Economy and e-Governance Bill and ways to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
He stressed the importance of collaboration between government, industry experts and private sector stakeholders in creating sustainable solutions. “Our legislative and regulatory frameworks must address current and emerging challenges effectively,” Olajide stated.
The lawmaker also highlighted the critical role of ICT engineers in implementing innovative solutions that meet global standards and reaffirmed his commitment to promoting laws that integrate technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and data encryption into governance while protecting citizens’ rights and privacy.
Earlier, the delegation, led by its chairman, Engr. Oluwadare Oluwalana, commended Hon. Olajide for his advocacy, capacity-building efforts and policy-driven initiatives that foster innovation, describing him as instrumental in advancing Nigeria’s digital agenda.
A certificate of appreciation and award was later presented to Hon. Olajide in recognition of his dedicated service, hard work and leadership, with commendation for his contributions to the ICT sector in Nigeria, Africa, and globally.
