NIMC: Odidiomo Leads House Committee on Oversight Visit, Pledges Support for Cybersecurity and Data Protection

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Digital and Information Communication Technology, Hon. Adedeji Dhikirullahi Olajide (Odidiomo), has assured the management and staff of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), of the support of the House of Representatives in enhancing the agency’s cybersecurity measures and data protection capabilities.

 

Olajide gave this assurance, while on an oversight visit to the headquarters of the agency in Abuja, accompanied by other members of the committee.

 

During his tour of the NIMC facility and discussions with the agency’s Director-General and her management team, Olajide Odidiomo commended the NIMC team for their resilience and commitment despite significant constraints.

 

He emphasized the need for the nation to prioritize the protection of sensitive personal data and provide NIMC with the necessary resources and infrastructure to safeguard critical citizen data.

 

The lawmaker also stressed the importance of exploring alternative energy solutions, such as solar power, to ensure the reliability and sustainability of NIMC’s operations.

 

Expressing the determination of the house in committing to the objectives behind the setting up of the agency, Olajide reiterated the House of Representatives’ commitment to empowering NIMC and ensuring the robust protection of citizens’ sensitive data which he said is a crucial step in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.

He pledged the support of the leadership of the House to enhancing NIMC’s cybersecurity measures and data protection capabilities in safeguarding the nation’s digital landscape and building trust in the country’s digital identity system.
