Telecoms giant MTN has announced the closure of all its stores and service centers across Nigeria in response to a wave of subscriber outrage.
This decision comes after numerous subscribers had their lines barred on Sunday due to mismatches between their National Identification Number (NIN) and SIM registration.
A viral video circulating on social media shows a mob vandalizing an MTN office in FESTAC Town, Lagos State. The crowd, angered by the network blockage, destroyed a barricade fence outside the office.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the FESTAC DPO and his team had restored order at the scene. “This should not be the way to go!” Hundeyin commented, urging for peaceful resolution.
