A devastating accident occurred on Tuesday morning along the Ojo-Iwo Road section of the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, near the Agbowo/Ajao area, resulting in the loss of at least 25 lives.
According to eyewitnesses and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), a trailer carrying iron materials experienced brake failure, colliding with an 18-seater hummer bus, a Micra taxi, and a Honda CR-V car. The trailer’s loss of control caused a catastrophic crash, involving multiple vehicles traveling in the same direction.
FRSC Spokesman, CRC Mayowa Odewo, confirmed that:
– 16 people died instantly
– 17 were injured
– 2 survived and were hospitalized
– Most deceased were Hausa nationals, whose bodies were released to the Seriki of Hausa
The FRSC Oyo Sector Commander, Corps Commander Rosemary Alo, and teams visited the scene to ensure free flow of traffic and prevent repeat accidents.
Injured victims were taken to Amudalat Hospital, Ibadan, while the deceased were taken to a cemetery along Akinyele area, Ibadan. The accidented vehicles were towed to Irepodun Police Station.
The FRSC has embarked on hospital follow-up visits to check on the injured and assure them of their survival.
