HON. ADEDEJI OLAJIDE DISCUSSES NIGERIA’S DIGITAL POTENTIAL AT GITEX GLOBAL ’24

 

Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Digital, Information Communication Technology and Cybersecurity, has emphasized Nigeria’s potential for digital growth at the 2024 Gitex Global tech and startup show.

 

Speaking at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Olajide acknowledged the evolving demands of technology in the digital world, stating that Nigeria must keep pace.

 

“Nigeria’s digital economy is expected to generate $18.3 billion by 2026, with the ICT sector contributing 13-18% to the country’s GDP,” Olajide said.

 

He disclosed that the Nigerian government’s Digital Economy Policy and Strategy program aims to leverage digital technology to drive growth across the economy, focusing on developmental regulation, digital literacy and skills, solid Infrastructure, service Infrastructure, digital services development and promotion, soft infrastructure, digital society and emerging technologies and indigenous content development and adoption.

 

Olajide, according to his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, reiterated that the private sector has a crucial role to play in Nigeria’s digital transformation and also acknowledged that major international technology firms, such as Microsoft and Google, have launched initiatives to support Nigeria’s digital growth.
