The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Oyo State Command has made significant breakthroughs in the fight against human trafficking and fuel smuggling, parading suspects involved in both cases.
According to State Commandant Augustine Padonu, four suspects – Joy Ben, Blessing Edet, Rose Michael, and Okechukwu Michael – were arrested on August 6 for allegedly trafficking young women and minors for prostitution. Nine victims, including two minors, were rescued from a hotel in Apate, Ibadan.
In a separate operation on July 30, the NSCDC discovered a fuel smuggling operation near Gwagwasu Moore Road, Kishi, uncovering 55 kegs of suspected Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) hidden in the forest. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects who fled the scene.
Commandant Padonu emphasized the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and combating smuggling activities that undermine the economy and pose risks to public safety.
The suspects in the human trafficking case will be arraigned in court following the conclusion of the investigation. The NSCDC urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
