Two top notch of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo state have been fingered in N50million bribery allegation offered by a governorship aspirant to secure their favour in what led to the recent imposition and impunity being challenged in court by 12 other aggrieved aspirants.
Oyoecho33 reliably gathered that the development led to a serious crisis among the elders as one of them, a former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Layiwola Olakojo turned down the two million naira, being part of the bribe, offered him to meet up with his pressing financial needs.
This further infuriated Olakojo to back out of the consensus arrangement that allegedly threw up the elders’ choice.
Olakojo also instituted a separate case and swore to an affidavit that he was not in agreement on how the said gubernatorial candidate emerged.
Sources within the INEC’s office where the list of governorship candidates and their running mates were pasted on Friday told Oyoecho33 that an aspirant allegedly sold a property belonging to his father in Lagos to bribe the two leaders in question to the tune of N50million which was shared N25million each.
The source further said when Olakojo heard about the bribery story, he confronted not only the two other leaders but also the said aspirant, and demanded why the need for such a gratification. The aspirant was said to have been perplexed when confronted by Olakojo.
Like a siamese twins, some of the 12 governorship aspirants too were also alleged of taking bribes among themselves in a recent controversial consensus meeting that produced Dr. Nureni Adeniran.
A billionaire among them had called for a meeting, hours to the commencement of their meeting at an hotel in Bodija and handed over N500, 000 each to all the four other aspirants at the meeting.
Their fifth person, another former Secretary to the state Government, Mr. Dele Adigun stormed out when bribery to sway votes ahead of the consensus became the kernel of the meeting.
Adigun who left the meeting held at Davies Hotel in Bodija thereafter moved to the venue of the consensus meeting held at Chief Lowo Obisesan’s office, Okebola, Ibadan.
The development made leading aspirants like Senator Lanlehin, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, and Mr. Adigun to lose to Dr. Adeniran, who at the first ballot, scored same votes with Engr. Remi Oseni.
Also, a National officer of the party and the Secretary, screening committee of the party was also alleged to have collected bribes from a serving senator for the ticket of the party against the wish of the four major leaders of the party which they reportedly reserved for one of the aggrieved governorship aspirants.
It will be recalled that political observers in the state were wondering how the senator was able to clinch the ticket of the party he earlier denied on the floor of the red chamber, after the president of the senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki announced his defection few months ago.
The source further alleged that the said officer of the party had collected gratification from many of the aspirants including those of the governorship to the house of assembly and Representatives, to either secure nomination forms and ultimately emerged flagbearers.
The source which called for the auditing of the party’s purse, also wondered why many who did not pay for the nomination forms secured same and eventually landed the ticket to contest the 2019 elections.
