Shun Indolence, Absenteeism, Local Govt Service Commission Boss, Ayodele Tells Workers
The Chairman of Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Aderemi Ayodele, has enjoined council workers, especially senior council officials to shun any practice of indolence, absenteeism, ineptitude and laizze faire disposition to work during this dispensation of Governor Seyi Makinde administration.
A statement by the Director of Education and Social Services, Adeola Oduola indicates that Ayodele urg d them to consider various capacity building workshops and workers welfare programmes which have been put in place basically for the enhancement of workers job efficiency, effectiveness and productivity.
Hon. Aderemi Ayodele handed down this charge while flagging off a two-day capacity building workshop organized by the state local government service commission, in conjunction with the National Productivity Centre, for directors of agriculture and natural resources; budget, planning, research and statistics; education and social services ; environmental and health services; as well as works, land and transport, held at Ibadan Business School, behind the state secretariat, Bodija, Ibadan, on Monday.
In his keynote address on the occasion, the Commission’s boss affirmed that, “The corrupt practice which is endemic in the local government service of today is systemic, hence the service needs a total reformation. In the light of this, I’m delighted to inform you that in view of our observation of this decadence, the Commission has embarked upon sensitization, reorientation and attitudinal change of our personnel in the local government service, through the gracious approval received from His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, by embarking on seminars and workshops that will bring about the desired positive change in our staff, ” Hon. Ayodele stated.
While enjoining the council officials on the imperative of imbibing exemplary leadership qualities, transparency, productivity and accountability, Hon. Aderemi Ayodele further tutored them on the need to build a productivity mindset and become change agents at their respective council areas..
In his goodwill message, the director general of National Productivity Centre, Dr. Kashim Akor advised the council directors on the need to change the narrative, because “once we get the issue of labour right, all other factors will be gotten right. There’s the need to have in your consciousness the need for growth, always improve on what you do, build a culture of improvement, and at the end of the whole programme, be a change agent, with this mantra ‘I can always improve’, ” Dr. Akor counselled.
In his own goodwill message, the Commission’s full time commissioner ii, Alh. Hakeem Oke, appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde, for charting a new trajectory for the Commission. He then charged the councils to key in to the four-point agenda of the State Government, with the ultimate objective of bringing the desired transformation at the grassroots.
Earlier in his welcome address, the project consultant, Chief Yomi Charles, said that productivity in the civil/public service is sine qua non to improved service delivery and economic growth of any society. He then encouraged the council officials to change their character so that the negative mentality the populace had about them could be changed. He further gave kudos to the Pacesetter State for being at the fore front of capacity building for its workers.
The two-day day workshop had as resource persons Colonel Joseph B. Ajanaku (retd.); Engr. Adejo David, acting head, productivity measurement and index department ; and Dr. Anyam Godwin, technical assistant to the DG, national productivity centre.
The opening ceremony of the capacity building had in attendance the Zonal director of NPC, Mrs. Kehinde Adeyemi; the Commission’s director of administration and general services, Mr Dayo Solaja; director of budget, planning, research and statistics, Alh. Ganiyu Wasiu and other important dignitaries.
