Again, Fulani Herdsmen Currently Attacking Igangan Community, As Residents Begs For Govt Support
Fulani hersmen are currently attacking the residents of Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government area of Oyo state.
Oyoecho learnt that the Fulani people arrived the community around 7pm on Friday and attacked some areas.
A residents who called our correspondent informed that the hersmen stormed the community in hundreds.
The convener Igangan development advocate, Oladiran Oladokun confirmed the attack, promised to get back to our correspondent.
Our correspondent recalled that no fewer than 15 residents of Igangan were reportedly killed in June when Fulani numbered about hundred stormed the community.
Oyoecho reports that the Gunmen arrived Igangan around 11pm on Saturday night and left around 3am on Sunday morning.
But the police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adewale Osifeso who confirmed the attack on the community told reporters in Ibadan on the following day said police was yet to ascertain numbers of casualties.
Osifeso said; “A yet to be ascertained number of unknown assailants invaded Igangan town with dangerous weapons in a bid to create unrest in the town. The unscrupulous elements were however repelled by a combination of Police Operational and tactical assets in concert with local hunters and vigilantes. Normalcy has since returned as on the spot assessment is in process.
“Furthermore,the situation is being closely monitored and comprehensive investigations are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.Casualty figure would be premised upon the completion of the ongoing comprehensive investigations, please.”
A resident of Igangan, Rotimi Etu confirmed to our correspondent that he personally counted about 15 corpses on Sunday morning.
“It is time we deploy extreme measures for this extreme situations even if someone’s toes will be stepped on. The state is empowered to make legislation towards her security, therefore let the state flex some muscles.”
Meanwhile, there Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin in a post on his Facebook page condemned the attack on the people of Igangan.
Ogundoyin said the attack shows that the government of Oyo state has not done enough in tackling insecurity in the state.
