In an extraordinary display of integrity, former House of Representatives member, Lanre Laoshe, has repaid a 47-year-old student loan of N1,200 with a staggering N3,189,217.
Laoshe, who benefited from the defunct Federal Government Student Loan Scheme between 1976 and 1979, expressed gratitude for the financial support during his education. He calculated the current equivalent of the loan using historical exchange rates from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced that Laoshe, CEO of Lanre Laoshe Foundation, issued a bank draft for the repayment, citing it as a “token of appreciation” to the Federal Government.
This remarkable act of goodwill highlights the impact of government support on individuals and underscores the importance of honoring commitments.
NELFUND praised Laoshe’s gesture, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Nigerian students’ educational aspirations through various programs.
Laoshe’s repayment serves as an inspiring example of integrity and responsibility, setting a high standard for others to follow.
