How 105 Nigerians Got Rescued from Human Traffickers

A total of 58 Nigerian women and children have been rescued from human traffickers in Ghana, bringing the total number of rescued Nigerians in Accra to 105 in the last three months.

This was disclosed by Chief Callistus Elozieuwa, Chairman of the Nigerian in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) Board of Trustees in Ghana.

The rescued victims were handed over to the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, during her visit to Accra. The breakdown of the rescued victims shows that 47 are from Kano, 5 from Katsina, 2 from Jigawa, and 4 from Kaduna.

In addition to the newly rescued victims, 11 more girls who were earlier rescued and in the care of NIDO BOT Chairman and the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana have also been repatriated back to Nigeria.

Some suspected agents of the human traffickers have been apprehended and handed over to security agencies and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for necessary profiling and prosecutions.

Dabiri-Erewa commended NIDO Ghana, the Acting Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, and Ghanaian law enforcement agencies for their cooperation in the rescue efforts. The rescued women and children are being returned to Nigeria, where they will be profiled, counseled, and reunited with their families.

NIDCOM boss also assured that they will receive rehabilitation support from their state governments.
